Blindside Inspires Adoptions

After several failed attempts to adopt a child, the Cannons from Palm Beach, FL started to believe that perhaps they were not meant to adopt and should only have two children.  Fast forward ten years to 2010.  Holly and her husband Todd went to go see the Blindside.  At the end of the movie both Holly and Todd were emotionally overwhelmed, sobbing together.  The Tuohy family story inspired the Cannon’s to not give up on adoption.

Shortly after, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti.  The couple immediately made efforts to once again adopt a child.  Unfortunately, the country of Haiti decided to close their doors to all potential adoptions.  Facing again a failed attempt to adopt, Holly started to get discouraged.  Holly’s husband encourage her to look into their local foster parent program, Place of Hope.  Place of Hope is managed by the Cannon’s church and is responsible for overseeing eleven homes to over sixty children.

Holly soon realized that their was a young boy named Tranard in the POH program that played on the same football team as her son Taylor. The couple encouraged Taylor to spend some time with Tranard, and the family learned that Tranard had a younger brother who was also in POH.  Holly immediately thought, “No big deal in our book, we wanted four kids anyway!”   Holly and Todd decided to get the paperwork rolling and in October of 2010, the Cannon’s officially adopted Tranard and shortly thereafter, his younger brother Nate in February of 2011.

We would like to send a special thank you to The Cannon Family for sharing their touching story with us.
